How much weight you should gain depends on your body mass index (BMI) before pregnancy. BMI is a measure of your weight in relation to your height.

Underweight | Less than 18.5 | 12.5 to 18 |
Overweight | 25 to 29.9 | 7 to 11.5 |
Obese ( include all classes namely grade I, II & III) | Equal / more than 30 | 5 to 9 |
- Normally, a woman should gain 9-11 kg during her pregnancy.
- After the first trimester, a pregnant woman gains around 2 kg every month or 0.5 kg per week.
